Meetings run
from noon until 1:00 p.m. every Tuesday. You may bring lunch
and eat during the meeting.
After a short business segment, the program begins with Table
Topics, where several members are asked to give 1-2 minute impromptu talks
on a variety of topics, with no advance preparation time. The skills
learned here are helpful in handling job interviews, and customer
service questions.
After this, there are two or three prepared
speeches by members,
which are followed by evaluations of each presentation by another
member. The topic for these speeches is left entirely up to the individual.
Subjects vary according to the interests of the speaker and what they
feel will be beneficial or entertaining to the audience.
Afterwards, there is a short evaluation session, where
the speaker gets feedback and comments from the evaluator, including
thoughts on what the evaluator felt where the strengths of the speech
and items to consider for improvement. Each speaker also gets a
written evaluation in their manual.
Athens Toastmasters has members with a wide range
of speaking experience.
Some just joined and are new to public speaking. Others have several years
of experience and are now working from the advanced manuals. Whatever skill
level you think you have, you will definitely fit in with us. |
